I went to Manchester Metropolitan Uni a few weeks ago to visit a couple of final year degree exhibitions. I promised Sumi that I would go and look at her illustrations. I was so impressed with her drawings and presentation. Her illustrations are so magical and whimsical.
I always pick up business cards and postcards when I go around exhibitions, but they had all gone by the time I saw Sumi's work. I got in touch with her about the exhibition and how sad I was not to get a postcard :( So she sent me a postcard with one of my favourite illustrations : 'Moon Hare', along with a really cute, tiny print of a robot from her collection. The robot reminds me of 'WALL-E'. Three tiny badges with more of her illustrations on them, which are incredibly radical. Then I found this gorilla, jelly shaped form in the envelope, which I just had to add to my book of randomness. Sumi you totally rock ;)
p.s. Check out the cool Voldemort stamp that was on the envelope. Harry Potter rules man.
Today I got a fantastic, full to the brim package from Jessica Gowling. It had a long trip from Canada, due to the strikes over there, but boy it was worth the wait. I am totally overwhelmed. Firstly I could not take my eyes off the colourful envelope which had animals printed on it, along with Canadian stickers and the most beautiful stamps I have ever seen. Our stamps in the U.K totally suck after I have seen these beauties. My favourite stamp has to be the one with the walrus's on it.
I received:
- A lovely letter with some cute fox stickers on it.
- Vintage Mouse Letter/envelope (two in one)
- 3x Fab badges with Jessica's illustrations on them.
- Dolphin Sticker
- Cat on a Pog (I used to collect these)
- 2x wonderful business cards
- 2x wonderful business cards
- Fold out map of the South Cariboo (for when I visit one day)
- Massive Postcard with Cowboys, tents and caravans on it, advertising the 'Williams Lake Stampede' of 1991, sounded like a really cool event.
- A really cute original illustration by Jessica, of a Skunk, I'm going to have to find a nice frame to go with this.
- And last but not least I got two of the most amazing printed notebooks ever. I can't wait to start writing and drawing in them.
Jessica you have totally spoilt me. I was like WOW when the stuff kept coming and coming.....it was like having a Mary Poppins bag. Your Radical man!!!

Anna, so thrilled I made you a very happy girl. I was worried I wouldn't be able to send you a worthy reply after the epic bear diorama. However, I am so happy that stuffing an AWESOME envelope full of fun treats did the trick. Looking forward to finding mail from you upon my return to 100 mile house in August.
ReplyDeleteSuh-weet! I knew you would appreciate one of my harry potter stamps :) I'm really glad you like! Jessica's package has pretty much shown my measly envelope up though ha! Beautiful moleskines!! I must show the world all the awesomeness you sent me now!! p.s Is this your way of telling me I should change my name?! Lol I may have to think about that one. :D
ReplyDeleteDon't compare them dude :( both packages are totally different and awesome in their own wonderful ways. I was like WOW when I got your goodies, cause I was only expecting a postcard and then all these little trinkets popped out....you know it brought a smile to my face.
ReplyDeleteMy Aunt says to me 'Its not better it is different'....remember that dude.
sumi, mail art is NOT a contest. And just so you are well aware, anna had sent me the most RIDICULOUS and ELABORATE piece of mail art, so I felt the need to spoil her. I was recently interviewed by Jessica Mack for Creative Collective about mail art and one of the questions was "if you had to choose whats the best piece of mail youve ever received?" and honestly, each one is so special because it is from a friend, family member, or creative that took time out of their day(s) to put together something special JUST for me. The gesture in itself already speaks volumes, PLUS your goodies looked AMAZING!!! can't wait to get my package from you!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what Sumi has sent you....exciting!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAh! I'm sorry, I take it back lol. I wasn't expecting a big response to my passing comment! If anything its very inspiring to see! But no I get it, I appreciate everything non-junk related addressed to me too! :D xxx
ReplyDeleteHugs***** :)
