I thought this year instead of buying flowers I would make my own from fabric and yarn. I made lots of Suffolk puffs to make up the flowers with beaded wired stems. For a bit of greenery I made some pom poms, they kind of look like Dahlias in a way. I used old knitting needles to make the stems, but I wish I had different length'd ones as I was not expecting them to be bunched so much at the top, but then the vase is very small and narrow so that's probably why I got that affect. I think the flowers at the bottom really give it more of a 3D look which I am very happy with. You may also see the coiled wire that acts as leaves, dotted here and there.
There are lots of great tutorials on how to make pom poms and Suffolk puffs on the net so why don't you give it a go. I made my own pom pom garlands a while back which you can see here.
